3D CAD & Creativity
Guide to 3D Printing
- AICT uses a FREE 3D design package with schools called TinkerCAD. Class accounts are available which allows all the children’s designs to be viewed and recorded.
- Designs can be saved online through the TinkerCAD website and shared with a design community.
- You can EXPORT your design in a .STL format to your computer and view it in a FREE 3D viewer such as ViewSTL. If you are using TinkerCAD through the iPad App, you can view the design using AR (Augmented Reality) technology.
- You can also link coding with 3D design using Codeblocks on TinkerCAD or through different sites such as BlocksCAD and OpensCAD.

Printing
AICT has the ability to print any of the children’s designs they create in school and bring them to life. There are various benefits to children’s learning and development by using 3D printing.
- Improved motivation
- Able to evaluate their designs
- Teachers can identify design flaws and provide more effective feedback
- Tangible end to the design process (unit of work)
To have your designs printed, please email the files to info@amazingict.co.uk and we will generate a quote.
Please note that the price of the printing is dependent on the size of the design as more filament is used in its production. At AICT, we tend to print the designs at a reduced size to reduce costs. It is also recommended not to print all of the children’s designs, yet print off select designs.
Leasing
AICT offers the chance to lease one of their MakerBot SKETCH printers to schools in the Shropshire area. Having a 3D printer on site adds to the awe and wonder as children are able to watch the printer in action. AICT can also bring in one of the printers for the workshops to talk about the different components and demonstrate to children how it works as their designs are being printed.
Costs
Half term (6 weeks) – £149
Full term (12 weeks) – £279
The 3D printer will come equipped with a demonstration tutorial from one of the team and one roll of filament. More filament can be purchased on request.
